Amsterdam is not Black and White but it is a city of contrasts
Amsterdam the city that never sleeps. A mixture of cultures, languages, skin colors, sexual orientations.
A city with may styles of building.
A city positioned at the delta of a river “The Amstel”. That position brought Amsterdam and the Netherlands its wealth. As a main-port to the “hinterland” goods where traded here. Imports from the former colonies in the West and the East brought the fast economic growth in The Golden Age.
This wealth we can still see in the inner city of this fabulous town.
Shooting images in Amsterdam is a dream. There is so much to see, so much to capture. After a while it gets overwhelming and the photographer has to stop. Once sorting the images, the whole process of looking again at all this variation makes you realize that it is impossible to really capture it all.
In this series shot in 2009 in The Jordaan-area, I want to take you on a black and white tour of the city and its inhabitants.
